I am a fan of Pokemon 1v1 RP and I have been looking for a partner to trade it with(or you can run any kind of RP in the trade, heck I might not even need a trade, let's see how this go) and here's the conflicted part with this site: I want to run it with a tRPG system known as Pokemon Tabletop United. Yes, I know, this is indeed very strange of a request in Proboard. But let me explain, I will give a brief history of my RP experience. I started with Proboards, the world of freeform RP and after a few years, I also joined sites that run tRPG systems(Dungeons & Dragons, World of Darkness and what not) in a forum PbP setting. I found that Proboards players RP better on average - and those PB players who played in literate/advance sites are far superior - in terms of writing quality. As a former PBer, I missed the writing quality, I really would like players who try to tell a story than trying to "play Smogon with PTU". And I can certainly go with a freeform, simple system or just RPing things out, but I really really like PTU(albeit the various shortcomings if we are being extremely technical on mechanics). It is my dream to run a tRPG system with PB level of roleplaying and storytelling, and here I am.
While the PTU books are free, I can understand it is daunting for non-tRPG players to have to read a whole freaking book just to start a RP. Systems in Proboards, no matter how complex, are never that huge in word count. That and the header of the site did state "Initially we don't work with complicated RP systems". I totally understand. So, my proposal, if I find any taker, is to make the rules as invincible as possible. You don't need to read the books if you don't want to. I will explain the rules as we play when it is needed. I can also streamline many parts of it -- you don't have to read through the 30+ classes and decide; you simply write your character down and then we discuss the path and chooses the bonus you get. Or we start with discussing a character concept then I will lay out all the "build package of classes" and we can go from there. After all, what I am seeking are the story, the narrative and the experience, not who can minmax in a battle of math skill and turn-based fundamental.
I already have a detailed setting written up and ran a couple times so that part is well-covered. The complete document is huge so I will not put it here right now; and instead describe it briefly: it is a "quite vanilla" experience in a homebrew region, but with a dose of college sports. A lot of the game mechanics are reworked. Gyms are not mandatory(and serves as side games), different elite four structure, a different ranking system(if you know Monster Rancher, more like that), Team XXX are not the player's problem and more. Players will be playing as trainer(rarer in my setting than the game, the requirement to be a trainer is higher, no random 10 years old can be one), seen as sport stars by the public, in a quest to become the region's elite four and then represent the region in the quadrennial Legend Cup where Elite Fours of all regions gather for the legendary showdown. Or we can find other narrative for your character. I have ran it once with a more superhero backdrop, where players have to handle both their trainer life(civilian identity) and their superhero life. If you want to be a chef, we can have a food adventure while trying to climb up the trainer's rank. If you want to be a musician, we can have a music tycoon side quest going on where you start from a no-name who sings in bars to a potential big stars. If you want to be police, we can have that too. I love sim games so anything can be included. You are merely a trainer because it is the highest status one can start with as a "working with Pokemon" class. Many trainers change career path in the middle and only want their trainer experience as the resume.
